Fantasy Flight Interactive, the branch of Fantasy Flight Games in charge of the tabletop game company’s digital games, will close in February after an unspecified number of employees were laid off.
There has been nothing official from either Asmodee or Fantasy Flight on this but a LinkedIn post, studio head Tim Gerritsen wrote that
“the decision has been made to close Fantasy Flight Interactive next month.”
“I’m going to do my best to get my team placed in new positions. I have programmers, designers, artists, QA staff and a producer to get placed in new roles and will do my best to do so quickly, Additionally, I’m now open to new opportunities myself since I will also be out of a job.”
Fantasy Flight Interactive was established by Asmodee in 2017 to produce video game adaptations of the range of products from Asmodee tabletop gaming subsidiary Fantasy Flight Games. The studio’s first project, The Lord of the Rings: Adventure Card Game, launched on PC last August with console ports following in November. A “Definitive Edition” of the PC version arrived in December, with console versions expected early this year.
According to other reports on various sites, the customer service department and tabletop RPG department are also expected to shutter as a result.
I’ve reached out to both my Asmodee and Fantasy Flight reps for comment, so far I’ve heard nothing back.
If you’re an avid player of The Lord Of The Rings: Adventure Card Game, don’t worry, a developer from the parent company, Asmodee, confirmed in a post on Steam that they’ll continue to support the game’s servers after the studio’s closure. Asmodee will also continue with the planned release of the game’s Definitive Edition on consoles this year, which released on PC back in December.
