Rob Zombie To Direct The Munsters Remake/Reboot

Rob Zombie has confirmed that his long-rumored resurrection of The Munsters, which he has been wanting to make for a very long time, is really happening.

The musician-director announced the news on his Instagram page.

“Attention Boils and Ghouls!, The rumors are true! My next film project will be the one I’ve been chasing for 20 years! THE MUNSTERS! Stay tuned for exciting details as things progress!”

Zombie has expressed his passion for The Munsters in numerous interviews over the years. His first major hit solo single, “Dragula”, was even named after the hot rod Grandpa built in the Hot Rod Herman episode of the TV show. After 20 years of chasing The Munsters for a film project, Zombie and Universal 1440 Entertainment finally came to an agreement that put him at the helm of a new The Munsters movie.

The Munsters, for those living in a cave, was a sitcom from 1964 about a family of monsters who moved to an American neighborhood after having come from Transylvania. It only lasted two seasons (70 episodes), but much like the short-lived (and more than a little similar) Addams Family, the series became a cult classic, spawning a sequel show in 1988, plus a handful of TV movies that starred the original cast.

The film is from Universal Studios via its 1440 Productions division, which means it’s likely going to Peacock instead of getting a theatrical release. More information as we get it!
