Chaosium Announces April Release of Basic Roleplaying

Chaosium  has announced the upcoming release of Basic Roleplaying: The Universal Game Engine. This release marks an update to the core BRP system, which has been praised for its intuitive and accessible mechanics.

Basic Roleplaying: The Universal Game Engine contains all the essential rules for character creation, combat, magic, psychic powers, mutations, superpowers, weapons, equipment, and vehicles that can be applied to any genre or setting. Players can use this book to create a seamless role playing experience in an existing setting or one of their own designs.

The PDF version of the game engine will be released in April, with a hardcover release set to follow later in the year. The new edition of the BRP system will be released under the Open RPG Creative License (ORC), allowing game creators to use the rules engine to develop their own games without royalties or permission from Chaosium.

“We’re pleased to have our core rules system released under the ORC as an example of an open RPG license that anyone can use.” Chaosium COO Neil Robinson

Basic Roleplaying: The Universal Game Engine will be available for purchase directly from Chaosium.com and DriveThru RPG. With the release of this new edition of Basic Roleplaying, it seems that the age of the ORC has officially begun, and we can expect to see more open-source game systems in the future.
