Wizards of the Coast announced a Dungeons and Dragons DLC for Minecraft. The DLC will come with a campaign that will last for around 10 hours. The adventure includes full voice acting, and you can go through it alone or with a co-op adventuring party. The team said it wanted to include lots of lore references, both to introduce new players to the world of D&D and as a nod to longtime fans who will recognize the references. It even comes with an in-game D&D manual that includes your skills and a glossary of terms.
The Minecraft Dungeons & Dragons DLC will be a story-driven expansion similar to the video game’s existing Adventure Mode, focusing more on guiding players through pre-built levels rather than its open-ended block-building and survival elements.
The DLC lets you play as a Paladin, Barbarian, Wizard, or Rogue, choosing your class and taking on enemies like mind flayers and mimics. True to its tabletop roots, you actually start the story in a Dungeon Master’s basement, starting the game and then venturing into the fantasy world. And while it looks like Minecraft, it includes a number of D&D mechanics, including rolling 20-sided dice for skill checks and specific combat mechanics. You can even backstab as a Rogue. Each class will have its default attacks–a ranged attack as a Wizard, for example–along with special skills that come with cooldowns.
“We’re incredibly excited to partner with Wizards of the Coast, to introduce a brand new, story-driven Dungeons & Dragons DLC to Minecraft! We can’t wait for the community to dive in and experience a blocky take on the world of D&D,” Riccardo Lenzi, Senior Producer at Mojang Studios, said in a press release.
A release date for this new DLC pack has not been announced, but Wizards of the Coast promises it’ll be out in Spring 2023.
