2024 has been a monumental year for Dungeons & Dragons, marking its 50th anniversary. To commemorate this milestone, TIME Magazine has announced a special edition issue dedicated to the game’s enduring legacy.
The news was shared by Luke Gygax, son of D&D co-creator Gary Gygax, on his Facebook page. Gygax revealed that he received an early copy and was interviewed for the issue.
While specific details remain under wraps, the special edition is expected to delve into D&D’s impact over the past five decades, featuring interviews with key figures and showcasing official artwork and archival photographs.
This isn’t the first time TIME has recognized D&D. In 2023, designer Kate Welch penned an article titled “The Magic of Dungeons & Dragons Can Save Us—But Only If You Let It.” And in 2008, following Gary Gygax’s passing, TIME published a retrospective on his legacy and D&D’s cultural influence. However, this dedicated special edition marks a new milestone for the game.
Unfortunately, release dates and purchase information are currently unavailable. But given TIME’s previous special editions, copies should be widely accessible through major retailers.
Just in case you can’t find it in your local newsstand, it’s available via Amazon now::
