At the recent London Toy Fair, tabletop game publisher Ravensburger unveiled an exciting addition to their popular Horrified series.
Horrified: Dungeons & Dragons. This cooperative board game, set for release this summer, will pit players against four iconic monsters from the world’s most beloved tabletop role-playing game.
A Horrifying D&D Encounter
Horrified: Dungeons & Dragons, designed for 1-5 players aged 10 and up, retains the core mechanics of the original Horrified series. Players will work together to overcome challenges, gather tokens, and protect innocent citizens from the clutches of fearsome creatures. Each of the four iconic D&D monsters will present unique thematic obstacles, bringing the rich history and lore of the TTRPG to life.
The Mind Behind the Monsters
Peter Lee, renowned for his work on 10 Dungeons & Dragons board games and the original Horrified: Universal Monsters game system, has masterfully crafted the monster challenges in this new game.
The Beholder: A Classic Villain
Among the familiar faces players will encounter is the iconic Beholder. This fearsome creature, a floating orb of flesh with a single large eye, a mouth, and numerous protruding eyestalks, has been a staple of D&D since its inception in 1974. Unlike many other D&D monsters inspired by mythology or folklore, the Beholder is a truly original creation, achieving legendary status with its prominent appearance on the cover of the first D&D supplement, Grayhawk.
Rolling with the D20
Horrified: Dungeons & Dragons introduces a key element of D&D gameplay: the iconic 20-sided die (d20). This addition adds a layer of depth and excitement to the game, perfectly capturing the spirit of the TTRPG.
