Brace Yourselves: Marvel Zombies: Red Band is Coming This September

Fans of gore, horror, and a radically reimagined Marvel Universe have something truly grisly to look forward to this fall. Marvel Comics has officially announced Marvel Zombies: Red Band, a new five-issue limited series that promises to push the boundaries of violence and explicit content within the Marvel canon.

What is “Red Band” and What Does it Mean for Marvel Zombies?

The “Red Band” designation from Marvel Comics signifies a mature content rating, meaning this series will be for adult readers only. Each issue will be polybagged and carry a Parental Advisory warning for explicit content, including gore, blood, and horror. This move indicates Marvel’s commitment to unleashing the full, unbridled potential of the “Marvel Zombies” concept, shattering any previous limits on its gruesome storytelling.

A Twisted Trip Through Marvel History

Written by the acclaimed duo Ethan S. Parker and Griffin Sheridan, with art by Marvel’s “Stormbreaker” artist Jan Bazaldua, Marvel Zombies: Red Band will re-write iconic moments from Marvel history with a horrifying, undead twist.

The series kicks off by reimagining the very genesis of the Marvel Universe: the fateful space voyage of the Fantastic Four. In this new, parallel universe, the four intrepid heroes return to Earth not just with incredible powers, but also with an insatiable hunger for human flesh. This initial issue will explore which heroes rise to become the champions we know, which are torn limb from limb, and which succumb to the zombie plague themselves.

Future issues are confirmed to delve into other pivotal Marvel events, including the original Secret Wars, ensuring a blood-soaked journey through the most significant moments in Marvel’s past.

Why Now?

The return of Marvel Zombies with a “Red Band” treatment coincides with a renewed interest in the franchise. A Marvel Zombies animated series is also scheduled to release on Disney+ around Halloween. This new comic series offers a chance for deeper, more graphic storytelling that the animated series might not explore.

Creative Team’s Vision

Writers Ethan S. Parker and Griffin Sheridan have expressed immense excitement for the project, calling it a “dream come true.” They describe the series as a “viscera-drenched, blood-soaked, gut-covered epic spanning across all the biggest events in Marvel history.” Their intent is to “rewrite Marvel history in new and terrifying ways.”

Artist Jan Bazaldua is set to bring this horrific vision to life, with cover art already revealed by talents such as Greg Land, Ryan Brown, Clayton Crain, and Scott Koblish, depicting zombie versions of the Fantastic Four.

Release Date

Marvel Zombies: Red Band #1 is set to hit comic book shelves on September 17, 2025, with the second issue following on October 22.

Prepare for a truly unsettling and unforgettable take on the Marvel Universe when Marvel Zombies: Red Band arrives!
