Dungeons & Dragons Forge of the Artificer Delayed Until December
Fans eagerly awaiting the latest Dungeons & Dragons sourcebook, Eberron: Forge of the Artificer, will have to wait a little longer. Wizards of the Coast has announced a significant delay for the highly anticipated release, pushing its launch from its original August 2025 date to December 9, 2025. This delay affects both physical and digital editions of the book.
The Reason Behind the Delay
The primary reason for this unexpected setback is a cover defect discovered in the initial print run of the physical books. Wizards of the Coast stated that while the covers initially appeared to meet production standards, they began to warp over time. To ensure the quality of the product and prevent defective copies from reaching consumers, the company made the tough decision to recall and reprint the entire physical run.
This isn’t just a “patch job”; it’s a complete reprinting, which naturally requires a significant amount of time in the production pipeline. This situation echoes a similar delay in October 2023 with The Deck of Many Things, which also saw a recall and re-release due to faulty components.
Impact on Players and Pre-orders
The delay impacts both physical and digital releases to maintain a unified launch experience. While frustrating for those who were looking forward to diving into the revised Artificer class and exploring more of Eberron, Wizards of the Coast is offering a gesture of goodwill.
All customers who pre-ordered Eberron: Forge of the Artificer (both digital and physical, particularly through WPN stores and D&D Beyond) will receive a bonus Eberron mini-adventure as a thank you for their patience.
Here’s a breakdown of the updated release schedule:
- Original Release Date: August 19, 2025
- New Release Date: December 9, 2025
- Early Access for WPN Stores & D&D Beyond Master Tier Subscribers: November 25, 2025
- D&D Beyond Hero Tier Access: December 2, 2025
What to Expect from Forge of the Artificer
Despite the delay, excitement remains high for Eberron: Forge of the Artificer. The book promises to be a treasure trove for fans of the artificer class and the unique steampunk-meets-fantasy world of Eberron. Key features include:
Revised Artificer Class: Updates to the Artificer class for the new Core Rules, including five subclasses (and the new Cartographer subclass).
New Species Options: Reimagined iconic Eberron species like Changelings, Kalashtar, Shifters, and Warforged, with Warforged now officially classified as Constructs.
Dragonmarks and Backgrounds: Dragonmarks are no longer species-limited, tied instead to backgrounds, offering new character customization.
New Monsters: Over 20 new monsters inspired by the campaign setting.
Player and DM Content: A wealth of new content for both players (backgrounds, feats, subclasses) and Dungeon Masters (monsters, lore).
While the wait for Eberron: Forge of the Artificer is undoubtedly disappointing, the commitment to delivering a high-quality product is a positive sign. Players can look forward to a complete and unblemished book when it finally arrives in December, and the bonus mini-adventure offers a taste of Eberron to tide them over.
You can still place pre-orders via Amazon or your FLGS
