Gen Con 2025: Breaking Records and Building a Bigger Future

Another year, another record-breaking event for the “Best Four Days in Gaming.” Gen Con 2025 has officially wrapped, and the numbers are in, confirming that the tabletop gaming community continues to grow at an incredible pace. Despite economic headwinds and challenges for some publishers, the convention in Indianapolis once again surpassed previous benchmarks, solidifying its place as a powerhouse event in the industry.

Attendance, Events, and Exhibitors: The Key Takeaways

The official numbers from Gen Con 2025 are a testament to the event’s enduring popularity and appeal:

  • Attendance: Nearly 72,000 unique attendees flocked to the Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium, setting a new all-time attendance record. This sold-out crowd demonstrates the immense passion and dedication of gamers from around the globe.
  • Exhibitors: The exhibit hall was bustling with more than 575 exhibitors, a significant increase from the previous year. This record number of vendors showcased a diverse array of new and popular games, merchandise, art, and more.
  • Events: Attendees had their choice of nearly 30,000 unique events and activities. This staggering number includes everything from traditional board and role-playing games to film screenings, workshops, and the fan-favorite costume contest.

Economic Impact and Community Giving

Gen Con’s impact extends far beyond the convention center walls. The event is a major economic driver for the city of Indianapolis, bringing a significant boost to local businesses.

  • Economic Impact: The convention generated an estimated economic impact of more than $82 million for Indianapolis hotels, restaurants, and other local businesses.
  • Charitable Giving: As part of its commitment to giving back, Gen Con partnered with Women4Change Indiana and Brown Toy Box Foundation. Attendees helped raise nearly $40,000 for these worthy causes, bringing the total raised for charity since 2003 to almost $500,000.

Looking to the Future

Gen Con’s success, while celebrated, also highlights a challenge: the convention is nearing capacity in its current footprint. Gen Con officials have noted that they “fill every nook and cranny of this downtown core area.”

With a new Signia hotel under construction that will provide additional event space and rooms, the convention is poised for further growth. Gen Con is contracted to remain in Indianapolis until 2030, and with the new infrastructure, the possibility of reaching an even larger crowd in the coming years seems very real. The excitement is already building for Gen Con 2026, scheduled to run from July 30 to August 2.
