Dice Throne To Get Digital Version! Kickstarter Coming In April

Since its explosive debut in 2017, Dice Throne has carved out a permanent spot on game shelves worldwide. Often described as “Combat Yahtzee meets Magic: The Gathering,” it’s a high-energy, hero-based battler that thrives on the tactile satisfying “clack” of custom dice.

But for years, fans have been asking the same question: When can I play this on my phone or PC?

The answer has finally arrived. Dice Throne Digital is officially in development, and it’s aiming to be more than just a simple port. Here is a deep dive into the project, the creators, and what you can expect when it hits Kickstarter this April.

A Dream Years in the Making

This isn’t just a licensed spin-off. Dice Throne Digital is a labor of love being developed by Nerd Ninjas, an indie studio led by Nate Chatellier—who just happens to be the co-creator of the original tabletop game.

According to Chatellier, a digital version has been the goal since the very first dice were cast. By keeping development “in-house” with Nerd Ninjas, the team is ensuring that the digital transition maintains the snappy, visceral feel of the physical game.

What to Expect: Heroes, Modes, and Crossplay

At its core, the digital version will faithfully recreate the 1v1, 2v2, and Free-for-All mayhem of the original. As of late 2025, the physical game boasts a massive roster of 16 unique heroes (including the core Season 1 and 2 casts, plus Marvel and X-Men licensed expansions).

Key Features Confirmed:

  • True Cross-Platform Play: Whether you are on PC (Steam), Mobile (iOS/Android), or immersed in Meta Quest, you can battle your friends regardless of their device.

  • Mixed Reality (MR): The Meta Quest version is particularly exciting, promising a mixed-reality mode where the digital board and “virtual” dice appear right on your real-world coffee table.

  • Automated Rules: No more debating status effect timings. The digital engine handles the math, stack limits, and timing windows, making the game faster than ever.

The Hero Roster: From Barbarians to Pirates

One of the strengths of Dice Throne is its diverse cast. Each hero comes with their own set of custom dice and a unique deck of cards. We expect the digital version to launch with the core Season 1 favorites, including:

  • The Barbarian: The king of raw, undefendable damage.

  • The Moon Elf: A master of evasion and blinding status effects.

  • The Cursed Pirate: A high-risk, high-reward hero who flips her board to unleash “Ghost Ship” mayhem.

  • The Artificer: A complex hero who builds bots to do his dirty work.

The Kickstarter Countdown

Following in the footsteps of the original game—which was also a crowdfunding success story—Dice Throne Digital is heading to Kickstarter on April 14th.

Crowdfunding allows the team to offer exclusive backer rewards, which historically for Dice Throne have included limited-edition “Battle Chests,” custom card sleeves, and promo cards. While the digital rewards are still under wraps, rumors suggest exclusive digital skins, early access “Beta” tiers, and perhaps even a discount for those who own the physical game.

Why the Hype is Real

The Dice Throne community is one of the most active in the tabletop space. By moving to digital, Nerd Ninjas is solving the biggest hurdle for fans: matchmaking. With a built-in lobby system, you’ll be able to test your skill against players globally, rather than just waiting for your local game night.
