Ready Player One Is Coming to Graphic Novels

Dust off your haptic gloves and clear some space on your bookshelf—the OASIS is getting a stunning visual makeover. Ten Speed Graphic has officially announced that Ernest Cline’s legendary sci-fi duology, Ready Player One and Ready Player Two, will be adapted into full-length graphic novels.

Whether you’re a veteran egg-hunter or a newcomer to the Stacks, this new medium promises to bring the neon-soaked, 80s-inspired future of 2045 to life like never before.

The Creative Team

To translate the dense, pop-culture-heavy world of the OASIS into panels and speech bubbles, Ten Speed Graphic has tapped some heavy hitters:

• Writer Scott Peterson: A veteran former editor from DC and Wildstorm. Peterson is no stranger to high-stakes storytelling, currently working on the adaptation of Mister Magic.

• Artist Meredith Laxton: Tasked with the massive job of visualizing the infinite landscapes of the virtual world and the gritty reality of a dystopian Earth.

Release Dates and Exclusive Access

The rollout for the first volume is a bit unique, so mark your calendars carefully.

The “Target First” Window (U.S. Only) In the United States, the first volume of Ready Player One will launch as an exclusive hardcover at Target.

• Exclusive Launch Date: October 6, 2026

• The Window: It will remain a Target exclusive until March 2, 2027.

• MSRP: $35.00

The Global & Wide Release Don’t worry if you aren’t near a Target!

• UK and Canada: The book will be available at all major retailers starting October 6, 2026.

• Wide U.S. Release: After March 2, 2027, Ten Speed Graphic will release both trade and deluxe hardcover editions across all retail channels in the U.S.

What to Expect

The first volume will be a massive, 326-page full-color hardcover. While the Steven Spielberg film adaptation gave us a high-octane glimpse of Wade Watts’ journey, this graphic novel format allows for a deeper dive into the puzzles, the lore, and the intricate world-building that made the original novel a global phenomenon.

Looking ahead: Fans won’t have to wait too long to complete the set. The adaptation of Ready Player Two is already on the horizon, slated for a 2028 release.
