Modiphius Entertainment Cohors Cthulhu Tactics is Coming To Retail

If you have ever wanted to square up against a Star Spawn using nothing but a gladius, a scutum, and sheer Roman grit, your time has finally come.

Modiphius Entertainment is preparing to unleash Cohors Cthulhu: Tactics, an adventure wargame that drags Lovecraftian cosmic horror kicking and screaming into the 2nd-century Roman Empire. Following a highly successful crowdfunding campaign, the rulebooks and premium 28mm resin miniatures are officially hitting the production pipeline and heading to retail pre-orders.

Welcome to the Hidden War

Set in the same universe as Modiphius’s Cohors Cthulhu 2d20 roleplaying game, Tactics is a standalone solo and cooperative adventure wargame.

Instead of commanding massive, nameless armies, players create their own customized protagonist, gather a close-knit group of companions, and lead a small cohort of loyal soldiers. Your battleground? The mist-shrouded Germanic frontier, where the Roman empire’s borders meet deep, untamed forests hiding unfathomable terrors.

You won’t just be fighting barbarian tribes like the bloodthirsty Herjan; you’ll be actively hunting down the insidious cults of Mormo and reality-warping horrors from beyond the stars.

How the Game Plays

Cohors Cthulhu Tactics is designed to bridge the gap between traditional miniatures skirmish games and immersive RPG campaigns.

• Deep Narrative Campaign: The game features a branching story spanning three acts and a prologue. Your choices matter—deciding whether to hold your ground against impossible odds or make a tactical retreat will ripple through your ongoing narrative.

• True Solo & Co-op Integration: Designed from the ground up to be fully playable alone or with a group of friends. The AI mechanics handle enemy behaviors, cultist ambushes, and cosmic entities seamlessly.

• Progression and Casualty Mechanics: Your surviving soldiers earn experience, unlock new character options, and gather powerful gear. But beware—injuries stick, and the mental toll of facing cosmic dread can break a soldier just as fast as a sword stroke.

For everyone else, Modiphius has officially opened retail pre-orders directly on their webstore. The core rulebook and initial wave of miniature sets are expected to begin shipping out to general retail customers starting in August and September.
