DDO Players – Vampireology Book Review

Long before the term vampire was born, long before Bram Stoker fictionalized this being’s ways, blood-drinking demons were banished to Earth by Michael’s host of Angels, or so the Bible describes.

Happy Halloween! I felt it only fitting that this review was posted today of all days, and plus I”m sure that the fact is not lost on anyone reading this knows that I LOVE the whole vampire myth.

Vampireology: The True History of the Fallen Ones is an interesting new book from Candlewick Press Written and Illustrated by Archer Brookes, everything you ever wanted to know about Vampires or better you anything your kids ever wanted to know! Is right here.

Like all the other “Ology” books you will find Interspersed are booklets, flaps, and letters between a young paranormal researcher who discovered the book in the 1920s and an oddly alluring woman who seeks his help. Among the phenomena explored are

  • * vampires’ genealogical origins, attributes, and range
  • * myths about the making of vampires
  • * secrets of vampires’ powers and shape-shifting skills
  • * tips for spotting vampires, protecting oneself, and fighting back
  • * case studies of famous vampires — and vampire hunters — through history
  • * a shocking overview of vampires “living” among us

Artwork

The first thing that draws in to the book, is the cover. With the blood red jewels that will draw you in, at the artwork.

The artwork does not disappoint inside either, again with all the other “Ology” books, there are flaps and pop outs that will draw you into the world of the vampire.

I would be remiss if I would not mention that WONDERFUL map that shows the “Spread” of vampirism over the world, 2 fold outs, and a great hand drawn look, As I vampire fan, I’d love to have just the map framed on my wall.

Final Thoughts

I know this book is aimed at kids, but I think adults will enjoy reading too. Anyone that is a fan of the vampire, will enjoy this book, as it’s presented in a scrap book/diary manner.

Dungeon Masters that are running a home brew world with some vampires/horror in it will find some great information on the vampire in here, that you could add to your game as well! So don’t over look this, as just an kid’s book.

if you’re looking for a Christmas gift for that geek kid, I would say you can’t go wrong with Vampireology: The True History of the Fallen Ones.
