Fireball Island on Kickstarter Is Live

Restoration Games launched a Kickstarter campaign to publish Fireball Island: The Curse of Vul-Kar. The game is a restored version of the 1986 classic tabletop game of marble mayhem, renowned for its unique 3D plastic board. The new board is bigger, taller, and faster and still manages to fit in a smaller box by using three trays that stack on the table but can nest in the box. It also features brand new art, components, and rules for play. In place of the roll-and-move mechanic from the original, players now play one of their action cards to move and take a special action. The game ends when one of the players takes snapshots from three separate spots on the island and gets back to the helipad. The winner is the player who collected the most valuable treasure.

Backers can pledge $60 to get a copy of the base game or $130 to get the base game plus three separate expansions.

  • The Last Adventurer expansion adds a new mini and an option for a 5th It also includes small snake marbles, a giant foam boulder, and player powers to give the other players special abilities.
  • The Wreck of the Crimson Cutlass expansion adds a whole new location for the players to explore. Players travel to the pirate ship via the island caves. Once there, they can collect a new kind of treasure but must be careful to dodge cannonball marbles flying at them from the bowsprit and tumbling out of the rickety crow’s nest.
  • The Crouching Tiger, Hidden Bees expansion gives players two new wildlife threats. The tiger leaps onto players from off the board, using a dexterity shot, while the bees come out in a swarm and sting anyone touched by them.
  • The Kickstarter campaign also features a fourth expansion, the Treasure Trove, free to backers, that adds a pack of cards with all sorts of effects. Additional cards will be added to the expansion via unlocked stretch goals.

The campaign runs for 30 days and has a funding goal of $250,000. Funded within 2 hours!

The game is scheduled to be delivered to backers in November, 2018.

Given the unique nature of the prototype, Restoration Games is using a novel “road trip” approach to take it around to players and content creators across the eastern United States. J.R. Honeycutt, the company’s Tinker-in-Chief, is driving the game from city to city, making stops at various game stores, cafes, conventions, and the like. The road trip commences at PAX East in Boston and concludes at the end of the campaign in Honeycutt’s home state of Texas.
