Set for release later this year, Conan is coming to us, via Asmodee and Monolith Board Games. But with the power of Conan, comes a powerful price tag. MSRP is $119.99
Based on the works of Robert Howard, Conan is an overlord-style game of adventure for two to five players packed with plastic miniatures. Monolith funded the game through a $2.5 million Kickstarter campaign. Asmodee will be handling the distribution of the game. The game includes 74 plastic miniatures, 4 hero sheets, a plastic “Book of Skelos” used by the Overlord player to manage the game’s enemies, 2 double-sided boards, 45 tiles, 9 custom dice, 75 plastic gems, 55 cards, 148 tokens, and 2 rulebooks. The game is for 2 to 5 players, ages 14 and up, and each scenario plays in about an hour and a half.
Should be released this November. With that 119.99 price tag. More information can be found over at the Asmodee Conan page.
I backed this original Kickstarter ( https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/806316071/conan/description ) – and was torn. Back in February 2015 I had a choice. Either Conan, or Blood Rage. I had a friend back Blood Rage, so I chose Conan.
Feb, 2015.
Turns out, Blood Rage funded, and was somewhat ready by Gencon 2015. I say mostly, because I was one of the very fortunate few to pick it up AT Gencon, without any of the Kickstarter Exclusives, and ticked off lots of Kickstarter backers, my friend included. All in all, Blood Rage turned out AMAZING. Yes, I wish I had all the exclusives which came with backing the Kickstarter, but oh well.
They said the Conan KS would be ready by October 2015. Nope. They didn’t make it, and missed MANY of the release dates they set. So many that they stopped setting dates.
I am still very excited for this game, and hope it is as nearly as much fun as Blood Rage is, making the length of time waiting palatable.
One thing that is odd with this press release. They’re not showing very many of the included 74 miniatures in the base game. The images they DO show, are the same images from the Kickstarter campaign. That is a little worrisome. I know that I backed at a level that has a LOT more miniatures than just the base game, so I sure hope they come through.
Monolith is not CMON. CMON has a track record of delivery and KS fulfillment. While Monolith’s staff have experience with miniatures and boardgames, this is still the company’s first game, much less first KS project. Next time, back a CMON project.
Look at the huge update for the KS on July 29th. The King Pledges ship in entirety this October.
