Hi Drac and Pineleaf,
In your last episode you talked about the news that DDO won’t play on Mac OS Catalina and that the official word from the devs on this problem is simply, don’t update your mac if you want to play DDO. Then you, drac, asked on your show how many people actually play DDO (or any games) on a mac anyway? You’d really like to know, you said. Well, I can’t tell you how many of us there are, but I certainly do; however I’ve been scouring the mac users section of the forums for help with this issue and I see that many others are doing the same.
It’s just plain unacceptable. Apple announced that they’d be doing this about two years ago. The DDO devs cannot claim to be unaware of this. It’s not a surprise. It’s not out of left field. It’s been in the pipe for a long time — as should a 64 bit update to DDO!
I have a metric tonne of DDO points. I was really, really looking forward to Keep on the Borderlands. I love DDO and I’ve been playing it casually for ~10 years. It’s a totally shitty way to treat ANY percentage of your player base.
I use my mac to work from home, so I’ll be updating it soon — very likely before Keep on the Borderlands comes out. Words do not suffice to express my disappointment.
And as for gaming on a mac: it’s not as uncommon as non-mac users think. I played WoW for many years on my prior macs; Elder Scrolls Online; Pillars of Eternity; Guild Wars; Neverwinter, etc. etc.
I think we can all agree that DDO is getting long in the tooth. However, it has a consistent, dedicated player base that has deep affection and commitment for the game, which the devs seem to share, as well as foster. We hear they’re plans for the future and how they intend to keep this game going. But they ignore 64 bit support to their peril, IMHO.
Take care,
James
