Magic The Gathering Inducted Into The Toy Hall Of Fame

Twelve finalists were narrowed down to three.

The inductees into this year’s National Toy Hall of Fame class are Magic the Gathering, Matchbox Cars, and coloring book.

The inductees were chosen among other finalists: Care Bears, Fisher-Price Corn Popper, Jenga, Masters of the Universe, My Little Pony, Nerf Blaster, Risk, smartphone, and top.

The National Toy Hall of Fame receives thousands of nominations annually, and this year, fans may vote for their favorite finalists from September 11 to 18 as part of a “Player’s Choice” ballot at toyhalloffame.org.

Wizards of the Coast introduced Magic: The Gathering in 1993 and quickly had trouble meeting demand, the hall said. A book series, electronic games and Netflix series have followed. The fantasy game employs chance and skill as players continuously collect new cards and refine their deck and strategies.

“The fact that it continues to maintain popularity is a testament to its revolutionary gameplay and constant evolution, making it engaging for beginners and experts alike,” curator Shannon Symonds said.

Magic: The Gathering joins Dungeons & Dragons, Wizards of the Coast’s other flagship property, which was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2016

The National Toy Hall of Fame is housed at The Strong – National Museum of Play in Rochester, New York.
