Gen Con 2022 Housing Block Sells Out in 3 Hours

So on Sunday those wishing to secure a room for Gen Con 2022, has there chance at the fun of the Gen Con Hotel Block Stampede.  AKA the Housing Lottery.

This used to be a epic free for all, where at Noon on the given Sunday everyone would log in and crash the Gen Con servers as they tried to get a room for the best four days in gaming. For years it was a winner-take-all system where everyone logged on at Noon and hoped for the best. After enough complaints, Gen Con finally moved to a lottery system, where you were randomly assigned a time the day before. It’s not a perfect system, but it was better than what they had.

For the first time ever, that I can remember at least (someone else please correct me if I am wrong here)  that the Gen Con housing block not only sold out, but did so in the first 3 hours of rooms becoming available.  3 hours, yes 3 hours after the start of lottery they posted via Twitter

It’s not clear whether they had less rooms  than usual or just more demand than ever before. Gen Con 2020 was canceled due to Covid. And 2021 was a smaller convention as it appeared that people weren’t quite ready to get back to normal. Even days before the 2021 convention, you could still get downtown rooms, which is unheard of in normal years. So far there has been no word if the attendance of this year will be capped, they did announce masks and vaccination requirements, Hopefully, Gen Con can secure more rooms for this year’s convention for people still wanting to attend.
