The most coveted award in tabletop gaming the Spiel Des Jahres, split into the Game of the year (Spiel Des Jahres), the children’s game of the year (Kinderspiel des Jahres), and the connoisseur or expert game of the year (Kennerspiel).
The Spiel des Jahres (“Game of the Year”) nominees are:
- Scout! designed by Kei Kajino and published by One More Game! & Oink Games.
- Cascadia designed by Randy Flynn and published by Flatout Games.
- Top Ten designed by Aurélien Picolet and published by Cocktail Game.
In addition to the nominations, the committee also put forward the following recommendations: Biss 20, Chakra, Point Salad, Switch & Signal and The Key: Sabotage.
The Kennerspiel des Jahres (“Enthusiast’s Game of the Year”), which recognizes “heavier” games for experienced gamers, will also be announced on July 20. The nominees are:
- Cryptid designed by Hal Duncan & Ruth Veevers and published by Osprey Games
- Living Forest designed by Aske Christiansen and published by Ludonaute
- Dune: Imperium designed by Paul Dennen and published by Dire Wolf Digital.
In addition to the nominations, the committee also put forward the following recommendations: Khôra, Witchstone, Arche Nova.
Three games were nominated for the Kinderspiel des Jahres (“Children’s Game of the Year”):
- Quacks & Co. designed by Wolfgang Warsch and published by Schmidt Spiele.
- Clever Junior designed by Wolfgang Warsch and published by Schmidt Spiele.
- Magic Mountain designed by Jens-Peter Schliemann & Bernhard Weber and published by Amigo.
In addition to the nominations, the committee also put forward the following recommendations: The Villa of the Vampires, Fröschis, Golden Egg and Honey.
