Sony Pictures is bringing the explosive action of Helldivers 2 to the big screen.
During its CES 2025 press conference, Sony announced a film adaptation of the popular PlayStation game. The project is a collaboration between PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures, though further details are currently scarce.
“Looking ahead as to what might come next, I’m excited to announce we are working with Sony Pictures on developing a film adaptation of our amazingly popular PlayStation game Helldivers 2,” said Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions.
Helldivers 2, developed by Arrowhead Game Studios, is a top-down co-op shooter that draws heavy inspiration from the cult classic film Starship Troopers. Players take on the role of soldiers defending a fascist Super Earth regime against alien threats like the robotic Automatons and the bug-like Terminids.
The game has been a critical and commercial success, achieving 12 million copies sold in just 12 weeks after its launch, making it the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game ever.
This Helldivers 2 movie announcement joins other exciting PlayStation adaptations revealed at CES 2025, including a film based on Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Zero Dawn and an anime series based on Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima.
This news is sure to excite fans of the Helldivers franchise, and we eagerly await further updates on this exciting cinematic venture.
