Hasbro Opens New Wizards of the Coast Studio in Montreal for D&D
The digital expansion of the world’s most popular tabletop game is forging ahead! Hasbro, the parent company of Wizards of the Coast, has announced the opening of a new video game development hub in Montreal, Canada, to aggressively ramp up production on the Dungeons & Dragons franchise and the company’s broader digital games portfolio.
Operating under the name Wizards of the Coast Studios Inc., the new hub signifies a major investment in digital development, with plans to create approximately 200 jobs in the city over the next three years.
A Dedicated D&D Hub in the Gaming Capital
The move to expand its presence in Montreal is no coincidence. The Canadian city is a global powerhouse for video game development, and this new studio will leverage the region’s rich pool of talent.
The new office will be located right next to Invoke Studios, the existing Wizards of the Coast team in Montreal (known for developing Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance). This physical proximity suggests a collaborative environment aimed at maximizing the output and quality of new D&D experiences.
Dan Ayoub, Global Play Lead for D&D and an industry veteran who began his career in Montreal, has been tapped to head the new studio. In a statement, Ayoub emphasized the strategic importance of the location: “As we ramp up our investment in digital gaming, Montréal is the natural choice. The city’s talent, creativity, and passion will be crucial as we craft immersive stories and experiences for our players.”
The New Digital Frontier
While the new studio will focus on “new content” for the D&D franchise, the specifics of their first project remain a highly anticipated mystery. The announcement follows a period of massive success for the D&D brand in the digital space, thanks in part to the critical and commercial triumph of Baldur’s Gate 3.
This new internal studio is part of Hasbro’s broader strategy to control and expand the digital landscape for its legendary brands. The formation of Wizards of the Coast Studios Inc. indicates a significant long-term commitment to delivering a steady stream of high-quality digital games, spanning new titles and continued support for ongoing projects.
The new studio’s official opening is anticipated in the Summer of 2026, but the immediate hiring drive signals that work is already underway to bring more adventures to life.
For fans of Dungeons & Dragons, this announcement means more resources, more studios, and ultimately, more games in the pipeline—an exciting prospect for the future of digital roleplaying.
