Full-Size Amiga Revival: Everything You Need to Know About THE A1200 Announcement

Nostalgia is booting up! Retro Games Ltd., the company behind THEA500 Mini and THEC64, has officially lifted the curtain on their next highly anticipated retro computer—a full-sized recreation of the legendary Amiga 1200. Dubbed THEA1200, this new machine aims to transport fans straight back to the 1990s with a mix of authentic design and modern convenience.

A Full-Size, Fully Functional Icon

Unlike its predecessor, the A500 Mini, the new A1200 is a full-size replica of the classic 1992 home computer. Crucially, it features a working keyboard, addressing a major request from the retro computing community and making it feel much closer to the original machine’s form and function.

Under the hood, the system uses emulation (likely a Linux-based single-board computer running a variant of the UAE emulator) to perfectly recreate the Amiga 1200 experience.

Key Features at a Glance:

  • Design: Full-size replica of the Amiga 1200 chassis.
  • Keyboard: Includes a fully functional, working keyboard.
  • Connectivity: Modern HDMI output for compatibility with modern displays.
  • Peripherals: Comes bundled with a classic-style “tank” mouse and a CD32-style gamepad.
  • Storage: Supports USB sideloading to play your own Amiga games (ADF and HDF formats).
  • Functionality: Features an integrated Workbench desktop environment, letting users explore more than just games.
  • Quality of Life: Includes four save-slots per game, a modern convenience for titles that originally lacked a save feature.

The Games: 25 Pre-Loaded Classics

THEA1200 comes pre-loaded with 25 classic Amiga titles, ensuring you can jump straight into the action. While the full list is still being finalized, some of the legendary titles confirmed include:

  • The Turrican Trilogy
  • Beneath a Steel Sky
  • Lure of the Temptress
  • Defender of the Crown I & II
  • Ruff ‘n’ Tumble
  • The Settlers II (a port that famously took nearly 30 years to arrive on the Amiga platform!)

Pricing and Release Details

The announcement confirms the pricing and a long-awaited release date, though you will have to wait a little while longer to get your hands on it.

  • Price: The Suggested Retail Price (SRP) is set at £149.99 / €189.99 / $189.99 (AU$299.99).
  • Pre-Orders Start: November 10, 2025.
  • Launch Date: June 16, 2026.

The price point is higher than the smaller A500 Mini, which is expected given the full-size chassis and the inclusion of a working keyboard. For Amiga enthusiasts, this is a true celebration of 90s computing power and creativity, rebooted for a new generation.
