Gen Con Housing Registration Sunday At Noon EST.

Get ready, gamers! The “Best Four Days in Gaming” is fast approaching, and if you want to be in the heart of the action in Indianapolis, you need to mark your calendars for one of the most important dates of the year: Sunday, February 22, 2026.

Gen Con Housing registration officially opens at noon Eastern, and for many veterans, this is the true start of the convention season. Securing a room—especially one of the coveted “connected” downtown spots—is a game of strategy, speed, and a little bit of luck.

Here is everything you need to know to navigate the 2026 Gen Con Housing Block.

The Countdown to Gen Con 2026

As of today, Wednesday, February 18, 2026, we are officially in the home stretch!

  • Days until Gen Con 2026: 162 Days

  • Dates: July 30 – August 2, 2026

  • Location: Indiana Convention Center & Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, IN.

Step 1: Eligibility (The Golden Rule)

You cannot book a room in the official housing block unless you have already purchased your badge.

  • Important Deadline: To be included in the randomized “access time” queue for opening day, you must have purchased your badge by 11:59 pm ET on Friday, February 20, 2026. * If you buy your badge after this deadline, you will still be able to book a room, but you’ll be placed at the very end of the queue, making it much harder to find a downtown hotel.

Step 2: Know Your Access Time

Gen Con uses a randomized “lottery” system to prevent the servers from crashing. On Sunday morning, log into your Gen Con account and go to the “My Housing” page. There, you will see a countdown timer showing your unique access time.

  • Opening Time: The first wave of access begins at noon ET.

  • Process: When your timer hits zero, a link will appear allowing you to enter the portal managed by Q-rooms.

Step 3: Room Limits and Requirements

How many rooms can you get? It depends on your party size:

  • 1–2 Badges: 1 Room

  • 3–4 Badges: 2 Rooms

  • 5–6 Badges: 3 Rooms

  • Only the purchaser of the badges can request the room. If a friend bought your badge for you, only they can access the housing portal to book for your group.

 Staying Downtown vs. Suburban

  • The Downtown “In-Block”: These rooms are connected to the convention center or within walking distance. They are the most popular and sell out within minutes.

  • Minimum Night Stay (NMS): All downtown hotels require a minimum 4-night stay, specifically including Wednesday through Saturday nights (July 29 – Aug 1). The Marriott Downtown actually requires a 5-night stay.

  • Suburban Hotels: If downtown is full, there are many hotels in the “suburban” block (near the airport or surrounding areas). These are usually cheaper and often do not have the 4-night minimum requirement.

Pro-Tips for Opening Day

  1. Search in Real-Time: The housing portal is live. If you see a room, grab it. It is only held for 10 minutes once you start the checkout process.

  2. Have Your Card Ready: You will need a valid credit card (expiring after August 2026) to secure the room. You won’t be charged the full amount immediately, but a $50 cancellation fee applies to bookings canceled before May 26, 2026.

  3. The “Wait List” is Your Friend: If your dream hotel is full, book a suburban room and then use the portal’s waitlist feature. As people cancel or shift plans, rooms often open up later in the spring.

  4. Age Check: New for 2026, many Indianapolis hotels have raised their minimum check-in age to 21. If you are under 21, ensure someone in your room meets the hotel’s specific age requirement.

 Important 2026 Dates to Remember:

  • February 22: Housing Portal Opens (Noon ET).

  • May 17: Event Registration Opens (Noon ET).

  • May 26: Deadline to cancel housing with only a $50 fee.

  • July 13: Housing Registration closes. Hotels will then charge a non-refundable first-night deposit.

  • July 30: Gen Con 2026 Begins!

Good luck on Sunday! May your internet be fast and your queue time be short. See you in Indy!
