Sun King Brewery Announces the Official Beer of Gen Con 2026

Every year, thousands of tabletop gamers, miniature painters, roleplayers, and dice goblins descend upon Indianapolis for the best four days in gaming: Gen Con. And for over a decade, local craft beer icons Sun King Brewery have been right there alongside them as the convention’s official beer sponsor.

If you’ve been waiting to hear what legendary potion they are brewing up for the July 30 – August 2, 2026 convention, the wait is officially over. Put down your controllers, step away from the table, and prepare your palate for: Rage Quit!

The Ultimate Nerd Tradition Continues

Sun King has a storied history of crafting incredible, limited-edition themed beers for Gen Con. From 2012’s Ale of Destiny to 2016’s Twenty-Sided Rye and last year’s crowd-voted Apple Cyzer, Core Strategy, the annual beer drop is an event in itself.

This year, they are leaning heavily into one of the most universally relatable (and hilariously frustrating) moments in all of gaming. Whether you just pulled a terrible card, got sniped from across the map, or watched your party suffer a total wipe because someone forgot to heal, we have all wanted to slam our hands down and walk away.

Introducing Rage Quit – The official beer crafted specifically to help you cool down after a legendary tabletop defeat. Ale with Cherry & Lemon-Lime Flavor | 4.5% ABV

The Official beer of Gen Con® 2026, Rage Quit combines bright cherry and lemon-lime flavors in a refreshing ale built for marathon gaming sessions. Whether you’ve suffered a crushing defeat, drawn the wrong card, or watched your carefully crafted strategy collapse in real time, there’s always another game – and another beer.

Where to Find “Rage Quit” During Gen Con 2026

If you want to grab a pint (or a four-pack of the highly anticipated collector’s cans), you’ll have a few key hubs to explore downtown:

  • The Gen Con Block Party: Located right on South Street, this massive block party runs from Wednesday through Sunday. Sun King will be anchoring the Beer Garden with fresh taps of Rage Quit flowing all weekend.

  • Local Downtown Restaurants and bars: Most of these will offer this on tap during Gen Con.
  • Sun King Downtown Indy Taproom: Located within easy walking distance of the Indiana Convention Center, their main downtown HQ will feature the largest selection of Sun King beers, great food, and exclusive Gen Con weekend offerings.

What have they done in the past???

Sun King Brewery has brewed some incredibly creative, geek-themed beers for Gen Con over the years. Their annual releases usually come with hilarious flavor descriptions and custom artwork.

The most famous past Gen Con beers that fans still talk about include:

The Early Legends

  • Ale of Destiny (2012): The legendary brew that started the entire official partnership.

  • Flagon Slayer (2013): A unique, historical braggot (a beer-mead hybrid) brewed using cherries, malted barley, and Indiana honey.

  • Froth of Khan (2014): A smooth, rich brown ale infused with the creamy goodness of coffee.

  • Drink On and Prosper (2015): A blonde/golden ale brewed with brown sugar sweetness and caramelized dark fruit notes. This was historic because it was the very first official Gen Con beer to be released in its own limited-edition collector’s cans.

Fan Favorites & Heavy Rotation

  • Twenty-Sided Rye (2016): A Roggenbier (German rye beer) brewed with magical rye malts that remains one of the most highly requested revivals in Gen Con history.

  • Dragon’s Delight (2017 & 2022): A heavy-hitting Belgian-style Strong Golden Ale ($7.3\%$ ABV) that proved so wildly popular it won a fan vote to be brought back out of the vault a few years later.

  • Genevieve (2020 & 2021): A Belgian Abbey-style amber ale named after the convention’s iconic dragon mascot. Because of the pandemic-affected years, its run was extended so fans didn’t miss out.

Recent Hits

  • Hive Mind (2023): A smooth, easy-drinking English-style Mild Ale brewed with local honey.

  • Cinnamon Roll 4 Initiative (2024): A highly experimental, nostalgic sweet treat of an ale inspired by cinnamon breakfast cereal and brewed with lactose.

  • Core Strategy (2025): Last year’s official selection, which broke the mold by being a crisp, sessionable Apple Cyzer (apple ale) chosen by a landslide public fan vote.

Remember: if the dice roll against you this year, don’t actually flip the table. Just head out to the block party and Rage Quit responsibly!
