Dungeons & Dragons Coming To HeroClix
WizKids and Wizards of the Coast are officially bringing Dungeons & Dragons into the HeroClix universe.
While D&D and HeroClix have both been cornerstones of the hobby for decades, this marks a significant crossover that promises to bring “The World’s Greatest Roleplaying Game” to the fast-paced, tactical combat of the HeroClix “combat dial” system.
What We Know: D&D HeroClix
For those familiar with HeroClix, the system is famous for its pre-painted miniatures and the rotating “Combat Dial” on the base of each figure, which tracks damage and evolving stats in real-time. Integrating D&D means we’re moving beyond superheroes and into the realm of high fantasy.
Key features teased at GAMA include:
-
Iconic Monster Miniatures: Expect to see legendary creatures like Beholders, Mind Flayers, and various Draconic threats rendered with the tactical depth of HeroClix rules.
-
Class-Based Gameplay: Early reports suggest the set will feature adventuring parties (Fighters, Rogues, Wizards, etc.) designed to work together as “themed teams,” a staple of HeroClix strategy.
-
Magic & Spells on the Dial: Speculation from the show floor points to a new way to track spell slots or “cooldowns” using the dial, allowing for a more dynamic representation of magic than traditional RPG combat.
Part of the “Season of Champions”
This announcement fits perfectly into the broader D&D 2026 Roadmap revealed by Wizards of the Coast. D&D HeroClix is expected to be a major “hero product” for the Season of Champions, which runs from October to December 2026.
By launching in the final quarter of the year, it offers a fresh way for fans to celebrate the D&D brand—not through a book or a digital tool, but through a competitive, tabletop skirmish experience.
Why This is a Big Deal
-
Accessibility: HeroClix is a great “on-ramp” for gamers who love the look of D&D but find the rules of a full campaign daunting.
-
Collectibility: WizKids’ pre-painted D&D minis are already popular; adding a robust game system underneath them gives players a new reason to collect.
-
Cross-Play Potential: Fans are already wondering if we’ll see “What If?” scenarios—can a party of D&D adventurers take on the Avengers or the Justice League? In the world of HeroClix, the answer is usually a resounding yes.
