Into Every Generation, a New Series is Born: Dynamite Drops New ‘Buffy’ Comic Details

The Hellmouth is officially reopening. After the initial buzz of the announcement last year, Dynamite Entertainment has finally pulled back the curtain on its highly anticipated Buffy the Vampire Slayer relaunch—and they are bringing some serious heavy hitters with them.

From crossover appearances to high-end collectibles, here is everything you need to know about the new era of the Scooby Gang.

The Dream Team

Taking the lead on the new series is writer Kelly Thompson (currently making waves with Absolute Wonder Woman). Joining her is the powerhouse visual duo of artist Stephen Byrne and colorist Lee Loughridge.

With a creative team this stacked, fans can expect a fresh, vibrant take that stays true to the sharp wit and dark stakes of the original series.

A Multiverse of Slayers?

Mark your calendars: July 27, 2026, is the date the first issue hits shelves.

The most exciting revelation? The first story arc will feature characters from both the Buffy and Angel television shows. Dynamite is also teasing the first-ever comics appearance of a specific character from the show—a mystery that already has fans speculating wildly.

To sweeten the deal for long-time fans, the release will feature a massive lineup of cover artists, including:

  • David Nakayama

  • Amanda Conner

  • Joshua “Sway” Swaby

  • Juliet Nneka

  • A remastered version of Arthur Adams’ iconic cover from the very first Buffy comic in 1998.

The “Blind Bag” Bonanza

For the collectors out there, Dynamite is leaning hard into the “premium” experience. They will be releasing blind bags, each containing three random premium variant covers. These sets will include:

  • “Virgin” Covers: Regular art without the trade dress (titles/logos).

  • Line Art Versions: Highlighting the raw pencil and ink work.

  • Exclusive Art: New covers by Stephen Byrne, Declan Shalvey, and others.

  • Icon Covers: Legendary work from artists like J. Scott Campbell.

Double the Trouble

If a main Buffy title wasn’t enough, Kelly Thompson isn’t stopping at Sunnydale. Dynamite confirmed that she will also be writing a companion Angel series, ensuring that both sides of the Buffyverse get the spotlight they deserve.

The Verdict: Between the cross-show cameos and the sheer talent involved, Dynamite is making a massive play for the hearts of Slayer fans everywhere.
