Dungeons & Dragons Movie Release Date, And New Studio Announced

The Dungeons & Dragons feature film, which Warner Bros. had a long drawn out court battle over there rights to make, is no longer in development at WB. Paramount has taken up the sword to speak and has assigned a release date, according to Hollywood Reporter.

The film’s move to Paramount was apparently part of the deal last month under which Wizards of the Coast parent Hasbro organized Allspark Pictures and moved all distribution for its film and TV output to Paramount.

Paramount plans to release Dungeons & Dragons on July 23, 2021, which gives it plenty of time to round up a script, stars, and a director, which I’m guessing is all changing from the Warner Bros. version.

It’ll be the first adaptation of the iconic RPG to land in theaters since the poorly received 2000 movie, that we all want to desperatly forget, Two straight-to-TV movies, Wrath of the Dragon God and The Book of Vile Darkness, were subsequently released in 2005 and 2012 on the SyFy channel.

Paramount has also announced an un-named Hasbro event film, perhaps the first to cross over properties in the new shared universe the company hopes to build, for October 1, 2021.
