Axis & Allies: Zombies Returns This September From Renegade Game Studios

The classic theater of World War II is getting a gruesome supernatural twist. Renegade Game Studios has announced the retail return of Axis & Allies: Zombies, scheduled for release in September 2026.

This alternate-history standalone game takes players back to 1941. While the Axis powers hold the upper hand and the Allies scramble to mount a defense, a new, uncontrollable horror emerges: the freshly risen undead.

War on Two Fronts

In this edition, players still take command of the five major world powers, but the strategy is no longer just about capturing territories. You must now balance traditional military conquest with the containment of a zombie infestation that threatens every border.

Key Game Features:

  • A New Strategic Layer: Zombies don’t take sides; they attack any army they encounter, forcing players to rethink their movement and combat tactics.

  • Standalone & Expansion: While it is a complete game on its own, it also includes an 86-card expansion specifically designed to add zombie mechanics to Axis & Allies 1942 2E.

  • Quick Engagement: Designed for 2 to 5 players (ages 14+), a typical session lasts between 90 and 120 minutes, making it one of the faster-playing entries in the franchise.

Retail Details

For those looking to add some horror to their historical strategy, the game will retail for $65.00. Whether you are a die-hard Axis & Allies veteran or a newcomer looking for a unique cooperative-competitive hybrid, this edition offers a chaotic, high-stakes experience.

“In 1941, the world was at war. In 1941, the dead began to walk.”

Reprint or Revolution?

While the core gameplay remains faithful to the original 2018 release from Hasbro, Wizards of the Coast, and Avalon Hill, there is more to this September release than just a fresh box.

I’ve reached out to Renegade Game Studios to confirm the specific differences, and based on their recent track record with other Axis & Allies titles, fans can expect a few key updates:

  • Integrated Errata: Renegade traditionally incorporates all official errata and rule corrections directly into their rulebooks, solving many of the “gray areas” found in previous printings.

  • Quality-of-Life Improvements: Previous Renegade reprints have seen small but welcome cosmetic updates, such as improved clarity on board markings and updated component counts.

  • The Standalone Experience: Like the original, this remains a fully standalone game, but the included 86-card expansion ensures it still bridges the gap for those who want to bring the undead to Axis & Allies 1942 2E.

From current press materials, this appears to be a polished reprint designed to bring a long out-of-print fan favorite back into the light of day.
