The Best Thing About HeroQuest: It’s Coming to PC

Gather your party and ready your battle axes, tabletop adventurers—the quintessential 1980s fantasy dungeon crawler is making a long-awaited leap to digital screens!

Unveiled during The MIX Fall Showcase, HeroQuest: Digital Edition is bringing Hasbro’s iconic board game directly to PC via Steam. Developed by Nomad Games (the digital tabletop veterans behind Talisman) and published by Balor Games, this official adaptation aims to capture the classic plastic-miniature magic while offering fresh tools for modern gamers.

Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming digital release.

A Legendary Tabletop Quest Reborn

Originally designed in 1989 as a collaboration between Milton Bradley and Games Workshop (and recently revived by Avalon Hill), HeroQuest has held a special, nostalgic place in tabletop history for decades.

The setup remains as timeless as ever: four brave heroes—the Barbarian, the Dwarf, the Elf, and the Wizard—must venture deep into dark dungeons to battle the forces of the sinister Dread sorcerer, Zargon.

HeroQuest: Digital Edition faithfully recreates the classic board game experience while giving players new ways to experience its turn-based tactical combat:

  • 5-Player Multiplayer: Take on the role of one of the four heroes with your friends, or step behind the screen as Zargon to control the monsters, set traps, and run the dungeon.

  • Built-in Quest Editor: Craving brand-new adventures? The game features an integrated Quest Editor, allowing players to build custom dungeon maps, script unique encounters, and design original quests.

  • Mod Support via mod.io: Thanks to built-in mod.io integration, players will be able to share their custom quests and download endless community-created campaigns.

When Can You Play?

While the full release of HeroQuest: Digital Edition is officially slated for 2027, fans won’t have to wait that long to test their swords. Nomad Games and Balor Games have confirmed that a Closed Beta playtest is scheduled to launch ahead of the main release.
